Wednesday, March 28, 2012 was, without a doubt, a night that will always be remembered. It will live on in the memories of myself, our Founder Damali Elliott and especially the young girls, Petals-N-Belles mentees, who stood and spoke in front of an audience of over 300 men and women who, even while not knowing them, came together to support them, their dreams, their futures and their greatness. For me personally, LIMITLESS will forever be etched into my memory because on this night I witnessed a group of young women further step into their own light and SHINE.

The power of mentorship is, for me a bit of an indescribable feeling. But it is a feeling that I would not be able to live my life without. Its power lies in the ability to, with our actions and our words, create a ripple within the surface of the essence of another human being that has the power to move through them for the rest of their lives. The more that surface is touched, the stronger the ripple and that essence, that person, is forever changed.

Our Founder penned what I believe to be one of the most genius tag lines. It embodies everything Petals-N-Belles represents. It doesn’t speak of right, wrong, what we think our girls should and shouldn’t be doing but it speaks to perspective. It is through our perspectives that we develop our philosophies on life and our philosophies dictate the manner in which we lead our lives. So, when you change a perspective, you truly do change a life. And this is the essence of Petals-N-Belles.

 My name is Alannah B. I’m 16 years old and I’m in the 10th grade. I’m also a Petals-N-Belles sparkle. My passions are writing, drawing, photography, music, and fashion. I love learning new things and being critiqued on what I can improve on. I believe in order to be the best, you must practice. Practice makes perfect.

Since I’ve joined Petals-N-Belles, I’ve been inspired to BE my dream. I’m a dreamer who’s trying to become the dream I wish to be. Petals-N-Belles has taught me there are no limits. Whatever it is we are passionate about and choose to do, we can do it. Petals-N-Belles has inspired me to become whatever it is I want to be, without doubt. I appreciate Petals-N-Belles and its programs because they teach me and expose me to things that girls my age have no clue about and these experiences have changed me. The programs also give me many opportunities that many girls don’t have.

On Wednesday, March 28th, 2012 Petals-N-Belles held their second annual LIMITLESS event marking the organizations one-year anniversary and I was apart of it! My fellow sparkles and me had the best time! It truly touched my heart to see how many people actually supported the program I love. LIMITLESS was a night that I’ll never forget. That night, I was inspired to reach for the stars. To everyone who supports Petals-N-Belles, I would like to say THANK YOU. It means a lot to me and I’m very thankful for you.

Petals-N-Belles really has had a huge impact on my life and from the event, I understand that now I have a responsibility to reach for my dream. There’s no reason I can’t reach my goals and make it to the top with all the support that I have. Thank you to the Petals-N-Belles board for sticking by it and supporting it. Thank you also to Emil Wilbekin, Bevy Smith, Rocsi Diaz, DJ Kiss, Shontelle, Chrisette Michele and the LIMITLESS Host Committee for attending and making the night legendary, not only for me but for all of the Petals-N-Belles mentees. I would also like to give a special thank you to my mentors Damali, Isis and Siddion. I love you guys and thank you so much!
