Founded in 2010, Petals-N-Belles, Inc. celebrated the completion of its first six months of programming and announced its newest fundraising initiative, Petal-to-Petal, a pledge challenge which seeks to engage 500 supporters who will commit to giving $10 a month for one year and get a friend to join. Proceeds from this initiative will help insure that the organization is able to continue to fulfill its mission and complete its fall/winter 2011 programming curriculum. Monday’s event helped engage hundreds of new supporters but the work to complete the challenge has only just begun. Within its first six months, Petals-N-Belles welcomed its first twenty-four girls. Eighteen of the twenty-four come from Petal-N-Belles Partner Schools, Chelsea Career and Technical Education High School and the iSchool. Working alongside partner school principals and guidance counselors as well as parents and community leaders, Petals-N-Belles, through its mentoring curriculum, aims to challenge young women in their actions and thinking helping them make choices that will allow them to realize their full potential, dream boldly and set goals and achieve them. Founder Damali Elliot says of the programs and Petal-to-Petal initiative “Just as we work to challenge our girls to invest in themselves, the ‘Petal-to-Petal’ initiative challenges our friends and supporters to invest in our communities by investing in our girls. By joining Petal-To-Petal you help to grow an organization that offers programming which ensures further self-development, cultivation and life preparation.”
